When the dog is excited or happy, the nose and ears ‘blush’ a deep rose colour. Interestingly enough, the eyes, nose and pigmentation of lips and eye rims blends with the coat colour. The coat is rich tan in colour and may have some white markings.

The coat is short and glossy, varying from fine to slightly harsh in texture. The Pharaoh Hound may be from 21-25 in (53-64 cm) in height. The breed is hardy and active and needs lots of exercise.
#Anubis pharaoh hound plus
A plus is that the breed has no doggie odour, even when wet. The Pharaoh Hound is known to be a friendly, affectionate, intelligent and playful breed. The graceful hounds were first imported to Britain in the 1920s and, because of its resemblance to the Egyptian dog-god Anubis, it was given the name Pharaoh Hound. Unlike most gazehounds, the breed hunts by scent as well as sight. On the isolated islands, the breed was utilized to hunt hare and rabbit as well as feathered game. The dogs were taken to the islands as objects of barter by Phoenician traders well before the birth of Christ and there they bred pure for almost 2,000 years. Kleiner Münsterländer Vorstehund (Listed)Įgypt was this elegant hound’s country of origin but the breed was developed on the Mediterranean islands of Malta and Gozo.
